The Frontline (Free Download)

by Donna Lewis

about

For Valentine's Day this year, I’d like to dedicate ’The Frontline,’ as my loving tribute to the frontline nurses working to save lives every day.

I was asked to write a song for an upcoming documentary by Tracy Christian. Adopt-A-Nurse follows 23-year-old nursing school graduate, Kristen Hansen, who had just begun working at a Long Island hospital in early 2020. She finds her new career colliding with the exploding COVID-19 pandemic, the most significant health crisis of our time. Suddenly on the frontlines, underneath layer upon layer of protective equipment, Kristen watches people die all around her. Devastated, bereft, exhausted, and desperate to find healing and support for herself and her overwhelmed colleagues, she is inspired one night to start an online community called Adopt-A-Nurse. The idea catches fire as people near and far eagerly sign on to support nurses on the frontlines by “adopting” them with small acts of caring and gratitude.
We meet other nurse heroes, some adopted by the very patients they cared for, whose lives are forever changed by the pandemic and the community that rallies around them.

This story inspired this song ’The Frontline.’ If this story and this song moves you, please show your support for Kristen’s cause by joining our Facebook community for Adopt-A-Nurse here: www.facebook.com/groups/559476101338758

Alternatively, you can donate directly to this incredible organization supporting frontline medical workers navigating these difficult times.
Thank you for listening.

lyrics

I come home late saying nothing
Baby sit with me say something
Don’t even know if I’m helping
Crying so hard please don’t touch me

Listening to who’s gonna make it
I just want to save them not lose it
Faith you got to believe in
When there’s nothing left of you

So we stand on the frontline
We are your lifeline
We make you smile
While we're healing this wounded world

And we stand on the frontline
Loving arms all around you
Cause we are the ones
Healing this wounded world

Trying to build a connection
Pictures on walls to explain to us
Searching our eyes for an answer
Yes you’re gonna make it
I promise you I will not fail you
Trust in me one more time

And we stand on the frontline
We are your lifeline
We make you smile
While we're healing this wounded world

And we stand on the frontline
Loving arms all around you
We are the ones
Healing this wounded world
